How to Wash Your Rugby Kit and Keep It Looking New

13 April 2026 3 min read

Your Untamed Gear kit is built to survive the hardest tackles — but the washing machine can be its worst enemy if you're not careful. Follow these steps to keep your sublimated rugby gear looking fresh.

The Golden Rules

Cold water only. Hot water can damage the sublimated ink bond over time. Always wash at 30°C or below.

Turn inside out. This protects the printed surface from friction with other garments.

No fabric softener. Softeners coat the polyester fibres and destroy the moisture-wicking properties that keep you cool on the field.

No tumble dryer. Air dry in shade. Direct sunlight for extended periods can fade colours over time.

Stain Removal

Grass stains: Pre-treat with white vinegar before washing. Apply directly, let sit 15 minutes, then cold wash.

Blood: Cold water soak immediately. Hot water sets blood stains permanently.

Mud: Let it dry completely, brush off the excess, then wash normally.

Storage

Don't leave wet kit in your bag overnight. Bacteria thrive in damp conditions and create that unmistakable rugby bag smell. Hang dry as soon as possible after every session.
